ERICA NEUMANN graduated from the Ontario College of Art, a four year Fine Art program where she was awarded the Eric Friefeld award for figure draughtsmanship, in 1990.
Now settled in Okotoks, Alberta with her daughter Peta and partner Gary, Erica has also lived and painted in both Canmore and Calgary. In Canmore public works include a mural in the pain clinic and the Folk Festival stage backdrop, a massive mountain meadow scene forty feet long and twenty feet high. Recognized by their brilliant colour and aggressive brush strokes, her paintings of western wildlife, including bears, wolves, and deer, as well as her landscapes en plein air, have quite a commanding presence. Her bears were featured at the Banff Whyte Museum as "Year of the Bear" was announced. She is currently represented by the Whyte Museum, Sunny Raven in Canmore and Neumann Gallery and Studio in Okotoks. Her work is in the collections of former first lady Barbara Bush, Olympian Ken Read and Mr. and Mrs. Craig of Craig Productions - CityTV, as well as various collections worldwide. A recent and innovative project is the production of "Art for TV": DVD's of paintings intended for flat screen and standard TV, a new way to enjoy contemporary fine art in the home or office. With two titles available, Neumann intends to produce numerous DVDs featuring many different artists. These DVD's are currently available in selected Calgary Chapters and Indigo stores. Respect for wildlife and wild creativity remains at the forefront for Erica, as she is currently enjoying plein air trips to the mountains where she is an artist in residence at Num-Ti-Jah Lodge, Bow Lake. She also teaches at Swinton's Art Instruction and Neumann Gallery. Erica is continually striving for excellence, growth and authenticity in her art. Read article online.
